A dirty stylus is the most common cause of premature stylus wear: debris accumulated in the groove walls is compressed against the stylus contact surfaces under the vertical tracking force, acting as an abrasive that increases wear on both the stylus and the record groove on every subsequent play.

What the Kit Contains and How Each Component Is Used

The three-component cleaning system addresses routine maintenance and deep cleaning separately — using the correct tool for the correct level of contamination:

– Soft-gel cleaning pad — lifts embedded debris that the brush cannot reach; press and lift, do not drag

Cleaning Frequency Guidelines

The most common mistake with stylus maintenance is cleaning too infrequently. Recommended intervals based on stylus type and listening frequency:

– Elliptical stylus, casual listening (less than 5 hours per week): clean every 3-4 sides
– Elliptical stylus, regular listening (5-15 hours per week): clean every 1-2 sides
– Line-contact or Shibata stylus: clean before every side — fine-line styli accumulate debris faster
– After any record with visible surface contamination: clean immediately after playing
