Description

The VoiceForge ShockMount Pro is a studio-style suspension shock mount that isolates a microphone from vibrations transmitted through the boom arm — desk thumps, footsteps, HVAC vibration, and keyboard impacts that would otherwise appear in a recording as low-frequency noise events. The VoiceForge USB Mic has an internal suspension that handles minor desk vibration when placed on a desk stand. In a boom arm configuration, where the microphone is connected to a surface through a longer mechanical path, the shock mount becomes the primary vibration isolation mechanism.

How Suspension Shock Mounting Works

A shock mount suspends the microphone body in a cradle using elastic bands or cords under tension. The elastic elements act as a mechanical low-pass filter — they transmit the audio vibrations at the capsule frequency (airborne sound waves) but attenuate the structure-borne vibrations transmitted from the stand at lower frequencies:

– Elastic suspension band system rated for microphones from 30 to 900 g — accommodates USB and XLR condensers
– Compatible with cylindrical microphone bodies from 46 to 54 mm diameter — fits the VoiceForge USB Mic and comparable units
– Upper and lower band configuration — prevents both axial rotation and lateral swinging under dynamic load
– 5/8-inch thread mounting point — standard thread for all professional microphone stands and boom arms
– Includes 5/8-inch to 3/8-inch thread reducer adapter — for smaller stands and desktop arms with reduced threading

Maintenance and Band Replacement

Elastic suspension bands fatigue under UV exposure and heat cycling over 18 to 24 months of regular use. Signs of band fatigue include visible cracking, loss of tension, and microphone sag below centre in the cradle. VoiceForge replacement band sets are available separately — no tools are required for band replacement, only a blunt threading tool and approximately five minutes. Backed by a two-year warranty on the mount body; band sets carry a one-year warranty.
