Description
The SpinGuard Headshell is the mechanical interface between the tonearm and the cartridge — the component that determines alignment precision, adds or subtracts headshell resonance, and sets the effective mass presented to the tonearm. Most stock headshells use stamped or die-cast aluminium with no internal damping treatment. The SpinGuard Headshell is CNC-machined from 6061 aerospace-grade aluminium with Type-III anodising and three internal chambers filled with acoustically inert foam for resonance control.
Precision Machining and Anti-Resonance Design
A headshell resonance that falls within the 8-12 Hz tonearm resonance window creates a feedback loop that degrades tracking accuracy on warped records and causes the tonearm-cartridge system to misbehave at the groove. SpinGuard addresses this through material and geometry:
– 6061-T6 aluminium billet — superior damping coefficient compared to die-cast or stamped alternatives
– Type-III hard anodised finish — Rockwell C hardness equivalent, corrosion and scratch resistant
– Three internal foam-damping chambers — shifts headshell resonance to above 18 Hz, outside the problem window
– Precision cartridge slot machined to ±0.1 mm tolerance — eliminates lateral play in the cartridge mounting position
– Universal ½-inch mount with stainless steel locking collar — fits all standard SME and ½-inch tonearms
Included Hardware and Compatibility
Every SpinGuard Headshell ships with a complete set of mounting hardware for immediate installation:
– 4× colour-coded OFC lead wires pre-fitted — White (L+), Blue (L-), Red (R+), Green (R-)
– 4× M2.5 × 6 mm stainless machine screws and nylon nuts
– 1× 1.5 mm hex key for cartridge mounting
– Cartridge alignment reference card (Baerwald null points marked)
Available in Anodised Gold and Anodised Black. Compatible with all standard ½-inch tonearm headshell mounts including SME-compatible fittings on the GrooveDeck Standard and most Japanese-manufactured decks. Backed by a two-year warranty.
