Description
The BassWave SpikeStand is a pair of height-adjustable steel floor stands with a sand-fill mass-damping cavity, carpet spike and hard-floor rubber foot options, and a top plate sized for bookshelf speakers up to 8 kg. Bookshelf speakers placed on a bookshelf are almost always at the wrong height — behind the listener’s ears rather than aimed at them — and coupled to a resonant surface that adds low-frequency colouration. A floor stand solves both problems: it gets the tweeter to ear height and isolates the speaker from furniture resonance.
Mass Damping and the Case for Sand Fill
A lightweight floor stand resonates sympathetically with bass frequencies produced by the speaker it supports. The resonant frequency of an unfilled steel tube column falls within the midrange — exactly the frequency range where the ear is most sensitive. Filling the column with sand shifts this resonance up and out of the audible range through mass loading:
– Sand-fill access cap at column base — fill with standard play sand (not included; available at any DIY store)
– Filled column mass: approximately 2 kg of sand per stand — shifts column resonance above 1 kHz
– 15-step height adjustment from 80 to 110 cm — covers seating positions from low chairs to high stools
– Top plate with adjustable rubber gripping pads — fits speaker bases from 14 × 12 cm to 22 × 18 cm
– 4× carpet spikes included per stand, 4× rubber hard-floor discs included — no additional hardware required
Setup Notes
The BassWave SpikeStand requires levelling after filling with sand and placing speakers:
– Adjust height before filling with sand — easier to modify before the added weight
– Use the level bubble on the column base to confirm vertical alignment
– On carpet: use spikes to prevent lateral movement during bass transients
– On hard floors: use rubber discs to prevent floor marking
Sold as a pair. Powder-coated matte black. Maximum speaker weight: 8 kg per stand. Backed by a two-year warranty.
